The new complex is fully integrated with the refinery and features a world-class Dual Feed Cracker Unit of 1.2 Million MT/annum of Polyethylene (PE) and 0.5 Million MT/annum of Polypropylene (PP) capacity to cater to all major application segments. HMEL has partnered with world-class licensors with pioneering technologies for the project, that position HMEL as one of the formidable players of PP and PE in India.
HMEL applies best-in-class industry practices in all aspects of its petrochemical business. HMEL has set up a world-class Dual-feed Cracker and Petrochemical Complex, integrated with the existing Refinery at Bathinda. HMEL's integrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complex produces a total of 2.2 Million MT/annum of Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) products catering to all application segments, along with other petroleum and petrochemical products. Due to the integration of the petrochemical units with the refinery, feedstock security is always ensured, with uninterrupted supply to customers of all application segments.
HMEL operates PP Unit-I of Gas Phase Technology, licensed from Lummus Novolen (McDermott) Tech, GmbH with a nameplate capacity of 470 KTA. Additionally, HMEL has set up PP Unit-II of latest Spheripol – II Technology, licensed from Lyondell Basell, Italy with a name plate capacity of 500 KTA. HMEL produces entire range of PP grades including Impact Copolymer, Random Copolymer and Speciality Terpolymer along with Homo-Polymer variant. HMEL will have presence in various applications sectors such as automotive packaging, agriculture, healthcare, housing and consumer durables, etc.
HMEL operates one dedicated HDPE line of Advanced Dual Loop MarTECH™ technology licensed from Chevron Phillips Chemical, USA with a nameplate capacity of 450 KTA. This technology is capable of producing wide range of HDPE grade, with very special attributes. HMEL also operates two Swing lines of world class Gas Phase - UNIPOL™ PE technology licensed from Univation Technologies, USA to produce both LLDPE and HDPE with a nameplate capacity of 400 KTA each, along with provision of producing metallocene LLDPE. These PE plants produce wide range of Polyethylene grade for various applications such as automotive packaging, agriculture, water & gas transportation, Household applications, etc.
HMEL produces Benzene, an aromatic hydrocarbon at the Bathinda refinery, used to produce numerous petrochemical intermediates such as nitrobenzene. Benzene is an important chemical raw material for the synthesis of basic industrial chemicals and used in the production of resins, rubber, phenols, plastics etc.
CBFS is the bottom product of steam cracker unit. It is a viscous liquid that contains a mixture of heavier aromatic hydrocarbons (C10 & above). HMEL is having production capacity of CBFS of approx. 180 KTPA.CBFS can be utilized as a source of fuel or as a raw material for the production of Carbon Black, which is widely used to in tyre industry to increase strength & durability of rubber. It has used as a coloring agent in Paints & ink Pigment for ink toners and other applications. CBFS can also be used in foundry processes as a fuel in rotary furnaces & rolling mill furnaces.
