If the passion to do something and the aspiration to move forward are supported with adequate facilities, then no one can stop one from achieving success. The Government Primary Smart School of village Giana has proved this. It is one such school in the Bathinda district, five years ago, people were hesitant to get their children admitted due to broken boundary walls and lack of proper infrastructure. Now the students of this school are getting admission to Navodaya Vidyalaya run by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, after passing the competition examination every year.

Specifically for the preparation of students for such competitive exams on subjects such as logical reasoning and numerical ability, HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited provided smart boards. Due to this 10 students from this school were selected in Navodaya Vidyalaya, after passing the competitive examination in 2023-24 examination. Making this school the first such school in Bathinda District that has such a large number of selections in an academic year. Due to the teaching methodology and extra classes conducted for the Navodaya Competitive Examination by the teachers, students from Bathinda, including Muktsar and Mansa, are taking admission in this school.

Gurdarshan Singh, who studied in the Government Primary School, Giana, secured admission to Navodaya Vidyalaya in 1994. In 2018, when he returned as a head teacher of the school, with the help of his fellow teachers, wanted to prepare students for Navodaya Vidyalaya. But this path was not easy. The boundary wall of the school was broken. People were reluctant to enroll children here. The number of children in the school was only 150. Gurdarshan Singh along with his fellow teachers contacted HMEL to support. HMEL transformed the complete school with the construction of a boundary wall, classrooms, a mid-day meal shed, new pathways, toilet blocks, an RO system, uniforms, stationery, inverters, furniture, etc.

To instill confidence and inspire the villagers, Head Teacher, Gurdarshan Singh, got his own two children admitted to Government Primary School, Giana. To prepare the children for the competition exam of Navodaya Vidyalaya, they started conducting extra classes. In 2018, two children from here were selected for Navodaya Vidyalaya for the first time. Every year two-three students from the school would secure admission in Navodaya Vidyalaya. Looking at the excellent results of the school, people started removing their children from private schools and enrolling in the Government Primary School, Giana. In the last 5 years, more than 100 children from private schools have enrolled in this school. In September 2023, the school was also selected among top 100 Schools of Happiness in Punjab.
