Road traffic accidents are a major public health issue in India, claiming around 178,000 lives annually. The ‘India Status Report on Road Safety 2024’ indicates slow progress in reducing fatalities, highlighting the urgent need for effective awareness. Reiterating its commitment to Safety, HMEL conducted Road Safety Week from January 13-21, 2025. The week featured various activities, including a three-day Integrated Safety Training Programme for truck crew members on accident prevention and safe driving practices. Retd. Colonel R.K. Sharma conducted sessions on defensive driving techniques, while the Speakers from Brahmakumaris, Raman Center, provided insights on stress management and meditation to promote a healthier and stress-free lifestyle. Many awareness activities like road safety briefings, interactive quizzes, badge distributions, and expert sessions were conducted. A key highlight included the ‘Be a Road Safety Hero’ event, featuring a skit with mythological characters, and engaging initiatives like the Click & Win Contest and Forklift Training. These efforts aim to raise awareness and foster a culture of safety among road users.
