Stories of Change: Real Lives, Real Impact

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
Rupinder Kaur’s journey with HMEL began in 2018 when she co-founded the Gyan Self-Help Group with local women, initially focusing on bag stitching. A pandemic setback threatened their progress, but a school bag order reignited their growth. Rupinder then expanded her efforts, training other women in bag-making, which led to the formation of four stitching groups and empowered many to start their own businesses.

Transforming the School Infrastructure
Gurdarshan Singh, a former student of Government Primary School, Giana, returned as head teacher in 2018 with a vision to prepare students for Navodaya Vidyalaya. Faced with challenges such as a broken boundary wall and low enrollment, he found support from HMEL. With HMEL’s intervention, the school underwent a remarkable transformation, gaining new infrastructure, facilities, and resources that paved the way for a brighter future for its students.

Where Dreams Wear Uniforms
Havildar Karmajit Singh returned to village Phullokhari in 2019 with a mission – to train village youth for the armed forces. But without infrastructure, his dream stalled. With support from HMEL and Sarpanch Harjinder Singh, the village got training kits, sports gear, and mats. The impact was immediate. 13 youngsters were selected in the very first year. Today, that small effort stands tall as the Phullokhari Training Camp which is a beacon of hope and discipline for aspiring soldiers from across villages.

Fulfilling a Father’s Dream
Krishan Singh, a small farmer from Sekhu, began supplying milk to HMEL Township after its construction in 2010. Inspired by his interactions with refinery engineers, he aspired for his son to become an engineer. HMEL helped turn this dream into reality by awarding Gurmukh Singh a scholarship for academic excellence, allowing him to attend a prestigious school and later, NIT Jalandhar. Gurmukh is now on the path to becoming a chemical engineer.

Bringing Hope and Care
Many patients facing financial hardship struggled to afford life-saving dialysis. HMEL responded by providing six dialysis machines, an RO plant, and upgrading the facility into a full-fledged unit with eight machines. Inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on January 13, 2023, the facility has since become a beacon of hope for patients across Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, conducting over 7,000 dialysis sessions and easing the financial burden on countless families.
